SPECS: Measures 1/4" x 7/8"; Grommet - 1/4" ID, 1/2" OD, 3/8" Groove
MicroStarTM (S0801) is designed to operate on 12 Volts DC. It will work with voltages ranging from 8 to 15 volts DC. A second model (S0802) is designed to operate on 24 Volts DC. It can be wired into household 110 AC via a transformer. A MicroStarTM can be switched on by timer, photo cell or manually. Assuming a 35 degree beam angle, illumination would be a circle of 15" at 2 feet and a circle of 22.5" at 3 feet.
Each 12 volt MicroStarTM draws 0.02 amps or conservatively 0.33 watts. (i.e. 15 MicroStarsTM in a circuit (parallel) would draw 0.3 amps or 3.6 watts of power) One circuit with 25 MicroStars will consume under 10 watts of power.
A recommended cable is Beldon 8442 or equivalent; 22 gauge 2 conductor in a common outer insulation. Typically, the feed wire to a group of MicroStarsTM should be 20 gauge wire. 22 gauge can be used for long runs to individual lights or groups up to 5. The type of wire is dictated by the environment of the application. Moisture, UV exposure and temperature will determine the appropriate type of wire and its insulation. Depending on the application, either speaker wire, bell wire, phone wire and low voltage control wire can be used.
The LED in the MicroStarTM will only work with correct polarity; the red wire connects to positive and the black to negative. The lights should always be connected in parallel with correct polarity. Butt and closed end connectors can be used as well as soldered connections. Protection of the connections should be considered in adverse environments to avoid corrosion.
The MicroStarsTM have a life cycle of about 100,000
hours. Depending on usage, MicroStarsTM might ultimately
have to be replaced. To prepare for this, care should be given
during the first installation to allow excess wire for the first
light's removal and replacement. If you have any uncertainties
or questions please get the advice of someone with the proper
electrical background.
